Petoskey will be the recipient of a Community Block Development Grant to help start the redevelopment of Sunset Square.
The downtown property has been vacant for more than eight years and now has a new owner, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The MEDC provided the $12,500 grant through the Michigan Strategic Fund. It's to be used for a planning study that will examine potential land uses for the property, such as a possible hotel and conference center. It'll also look at market needs in the area. The city of Petoskey will help out with $12,750 in matching funds.
The grant funding is provided to businesses that will make investments or create jobs in Michigan.
