North Central Michigan College's enrollment numbers improve by 2 percent

Growing numbers in enrollment is what every college likes to see, and North Central Michigan College is no exception.

The small institution, located in Petoskey, achieved that goal this year with a 2-percent increase in their student body. As of mid-September, the official census date, there were 3,189 students enrolled for the fall semester at Norther Central. Last year at the same time, the college had 3,123 students enrolled.

And that's not the only increase that the educational institution is seeing. This year, credit hours are up 3 percent as well.

"North Central continues to play an expanding role in higher education for the residents of northern Michigan. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping the people who come here achieve the educational goals they have set for themselves," says Charles MacInnis, director of public relations.

Included in the final headcount for North Central were 77 members of the Young Americans musical group, who are all receiving instruction from North Central for the first time this fall. In addition, 30 students are in the new "Direct Credit Program," a partnership with the Charm-Em Intermediate School District that gives high school students and additional way to earn college credit from North Central during their junior and senior years in high school.
