Planned Parenthood hires new medical director

A Petoskey physician will be taking over the role of medical director for Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan, which covers all of northwest Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

It's not a totally new role for Dr. Daniel VerBurg; from 1982 to 2007, he served as medical director for what was then called Planned Parenthood Northern Michigan, before it joined with western Michigan centers to form its current structure.

In the new role, he will oversee eight health centers, including one in Petoskey and one in Traverse City. VerBurg takes over from Dr. Charles Newton, who is retiring after holding the directorship for eight years.

"I am excited to be serving as medical director for Planned Parenthood once again," says VerBurg, "My core values for medical practice--people, excellence, results, and service--align well with the organization. Doctor Newton and I have similar training and background, so this transition has been essentially seamless."

He will continue to practice in Petoskey in his private gynecology practice as well.
