Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra welcomes new director and violin instructor

The Interlochen orchestras have two new faculty members, one of them the new Arts Academy Orchestra director.

Carolyn Watson will lead the Arts Academy Orchestra, and Stephanie Arado will be the new violin studio instructor at the fine arts school.

Watson, from Sydney, Australia, was previously conductor-in-residence at the Conservatorium High School. She also has been the conductor for the Sudney Philharmonia Choirs and the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. In 2013, she received the Brian Stacey Award for emerging Australian conductors, and in 2008, the Sir Charles Mackerras Conducting Prize from the Australian Music Foundation.

She has a doctorate in conducting from the University of Sydney; general and advanced diplomas from the Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute in Hungary, and a diploma in violin performance from Trinity College of Music in London.

Violinist Stephanie Arado was previously the assistant concertmaster with the Minnesota Orchestra and is an Interlochen alumna. She attended The Juilliard School, studying with Dorothy DeLay and Paul Kantor, and also has been the concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony. Her teaching credits include at the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis and coaching the Minnesota Youth Symphony.
