Grand Traverse County is one of five Michigan counties getting housing grants from the
Michigan State Housing Development Authority, according to a recent announcement.
The grants are from the Housing Resource Fund and total $1.175 million toward home rehabilitation and emergency repair projects across the state.
Grand Traverse County's share of the money is $300,000, which will go to rehabilitate 15 owner-occupied homes. Fifty percent of the grant will be used countywide and 50 percent will be strategically targeted where it can have the most impact.
"Projects that stem from these grants have great potential to create a positive and sustained community impact," says Scott Woosley, MSHDA's executive director. "As the physical condition of housing in each county improves, pride of ownership is restored and nearby homeowners feel empowered to improve their homes and businesses. All of this has a significant ripple effect on the area and its residents."
The other counties receiving funds are Roscommon, $175,000; Midland, $225,000; Dickinson, $175,000; Ottawa, $300,000. Local government units are eligible to apply for further funding from the Housing Resource Fund to put toward affordable housing projects.
