This month, three more Michigan Main Street communities were named, and one of them is
Grayling.
The Michigan Main Street program is part of the
Michigan State Housing Development Authority. It will work with Grayling and the other communities, Three Rivers and Wayne, to offer five years of intensive assistance and strategic planning focusing on attracting new residents, business investment, economic growth and job creation.
The planning will focus on Grayling's central business district, in line with widerspread placemaking efforts across Michigan, and the goals of the Main Street program, which uses a four-pronged approach to community development.
Those four areas are organization, or getting the right resources in place; promotion, or marketing the community; design, or physical improvements to the downtown; and economic restructuring, the bigger picture to strengthen Grayling's economic base.
Grayling will join 43 other communities participating in the Michigan Main Street program.
