The Boyne City Main Street program has done a lot to revitalize Boyne City's downtown, and the proof of that is in a recent recognition at the
2010 Michigan Downtown Conference, held in Bay City.
Part of the conference was a series of award presentations given by various state agencies and organizations with interests in improving downtown districts. Each recognizes efforts in downtown revitalization across the state.
Boyne City Main Street received the award for "Main Street Program of the Year," an honor given by the Michigan Main Street Center at the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
And that's not the only reason Boyne City was honored at the conference; the Michigan Economic Development Corporation also awarded its "Brownfield Project of the Year" award for a city with population less than 50,000 to Boyne City for the One Water project undertaken by Catt Development.
MEDC President and CEO Greg Main says the awards show progress being made toward a strong and diversified state economy, as traditional downtowns see new growth.
"These kinds of projects help put into place the kind of 21st century infrastructure that can support new business investment and new job growth," Main says.
The annual conference brought together downtown community leaders from across the state to build strategies and discuss challenges for downtown revitalization work.
