While it's a bit frigid outside to go for a dip, it's perfect weather for hitting an indoor waterpark. Thankfully for everyone in Northwest Michigan, one of Budget Travel Magazine's top-10 indoor waterparks is right in Boyne Falls.
The top-10 list, which is available on the magazine's website, includes
Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark, an 88,000-square-foot facility that features five waterslides, a four-story tall mountain water-play structure, shallow children's pool and play area, wet climbing wall, lazy river, two hot tubs and Michigan's only indoor surfing wave.
What one might not expect is that this waterpark is at Boyne Mountain, known for its skiing.
"True, and in fact when Avalanche Bay opened, it was the first indoor waterpark ever built at a ski resort in the United States," says Erin Ernst, of Boyne Mountain. "The waterpark, which opened in 2005, has helped to round out the vacation experience by offering weather-proof fun at Boyne Mountain and has greatly expanded the resort's four-season appeal, particularly during the spring and fall."
The resort offers guests a diverse selection of four-season amenities and a wide variety of lodging including hotel, condo and cabin accommodations. With a plethora of snowsports, two golf courses, Avalanche Bay, eclectic dinning, and the new Zipline Adventures, Boyne Mountain seems to have something for everyone.
Waterpark packages are available year-round and daily admission to Avalanche Bay is also offered.
