Ludington farmer appointed to state apple committee

Arthur Lister, the owner of Lister Orchards in Ludington, has recently been appointed to the Michigan Apple Committee by Gov. Rick Snyder.

Lister's farm spans 900 acres and produces apples, tart cherries, sweet cherries, peaches, pears and plums. He will be the new representative for District 5, replacing Scott Lewis.

Lister is a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in horticulture.

The Michigan Apple Committee is a seven-member committee that coordinates market development, educational activities and research for Michigan's apple industry. The state has more than 800 apple growers and the industry accounts for an economic impact of more than $770 million annually.

Also named to the committee was Tony Blattner, the owner of Twin Been Orchards. His farm is on 125 acres and focuses on apples alone. He has a bachelor's in horticulture from Michigan State University and lives in Lowell. He will be representing District 4.

The appointments are for three years and will expire April 1, 2016.
