Manistee's Amptech wins $573k green grant

Governor Jennifer Granholm awarded Manistee's Amptech Inc. a $300,000 grant and $273,000 loan to manufacture combiner boxes for solar panels. The funds are from the Clean Energy Advanced Manufacturing program or CEAM, via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Amptech, which began in a private home as a prototype shop in 1980, is a manufacturer of printed circuit board assemblies, wire harnesses and mechanical assemblies for the electronics industry. Its customer base includes the appliance, automotive, consumer, industrial, medical, military and research and development industries.

The company moved to its current facility in Manistee in 1992 and in 2001 acquired an assembly operation in Beaver Falls, PA, to service regional industrial accounts. Lee R. Wyatt is president and CEO.

Amptech, a non-union private company, employs about 160 people.
