Northwestern Michigan College already is a great place to study water, with the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute.
Now, it's offering a new certification and degree program on water policy for college students and professionals alike, in cooperation with
FLOW, a Great Lakes water and public trust policy and education center.
The new water policy program is connected with the school's existinv, science-focused freshwater degree, and its first courses will be offered in the fall of 2014. It integrates water, energy, food, climate change, and hydrological science with policy principles.
"We hope this water policy program will serve as a model for undergraduate and higher-level and continuing professional education. It will empower our students with information and tools to address systemic, complex threats to freshwater resources," says Great Lakes Water Studies Institute Director Hans Van Sumeren.
