Mercy Hospital Cadillac got good news this month; its laboratory has been approved for accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists.
The committee dates to the 1960s and is recognized by the federal government as holding to equal or higher standards than its own inspection programs. It certifies more than 7,000 laboratories worldwide, of which number Mercy Hospital Cadillac is now one.
Lab director Michael Caplan says the committee's recognition of the lab's excellence is good for the whole community.
"Our team strongly adheres to standards for safety, accuracy, and excellent service for our patients. This accreditation reflects the commitment we have to the well being of our community," says Caplan.
The accreditation was awarded based on the results of a recent onsite inspection, and examination of the lab's records, quality control procedures, and staff qualifications. Inspectors also check the lab's equipment, facilities, safety programs, and overall management.
The goal behind the committee's accreditation process is to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
