The northern Michigan beer scene has a newcomer opening this spring, as
Hop Lot Brewery throws open the doors on its new taproom in Suttons Bay.
The Traverse City-area brewery and taproom has almost a year of development from owners and brothers Steve and Drew Lutke and head brewer Luke Johnson.
It is welcoming visitors at 658 South West-Bay Shore Drive, just off M-22 in Suttons Bay, with a nicely balanced selection of their own beers on tap, along with a selection of small-plate-style food.
The new taproom has just finished construction, along with a ¾-acre beer garden and onsite hop garden. The owners plan on hosting a local music venue as well as weekly and seasonal events, too.
The offerings to start include Highway Robbery Blonde Ale, Tippy Canoe American Wheat, Rough Sawn Amber Ale, and Kittywampus Oatmeal Stout. The menu includes pulled pork or chicken nachos, soft pretzels, and a hummus and pita plate. Throughout April, five more tap beers are being rolled out, including a rye pale ale, a session IPA and a maple brown ale.
For now, Hop Lot's taproom is open weekends; on Fridays from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. To-go variety packs of their beers in bottles also are available.
