Grand Traverse Industries announced it has recently received the highest level of accreditation, lasting three years, from the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission. The designation validates the nonprofit company's work with disabled employees, including community and employment services.
The accreditation came after a three-day survey of Grand Traverse Industries' facilities in Petoskey, Mancelona and Traverse City. National surveyors reported on all facets of operations, and noted especially the variety of work opportunities for different skill levels, as well as commitment from the board of directors, sound revenue development, and health and safety practices.
Grand Traverse Industries received accreditation in the areas of community integration, community employment services, job supports, and organizational employment services, all of which will last through 2013.
Bob Reed is the board chair, and says the accreditation shows dedication and hard work from all the staff and board members, as well as being a recognition of the quality of services and products the company provides.
"We wish to thank the Northern Michigan community and in particular the business community for its support of the GTI mission," says Reed. "Without this support and dedication, the highest level of CARF accreditation would not be possible."
Grand Traverse was founded in 1974 and trains and employs more than 300 disabled employees in its operations, which include packaging, assembly, plastic bag manufacturing, vending, janitorial services, and interpreter services for the deaf.
