A Harrietta company is getting a community development block grant from the
Michigan Economic Development Corporation to add new jobs and expand its operations.
The Harrietta Hills Trout Farm will receive $210,000 as a capital loan through the grant program in order to support its recent partnership with Superior Foods of Grand Rapids, for which it is producing and processing fish.
The funding will support the creation of six jobs as well as paying for increased operating expenses like inventory, receivables, equipment, licensing, marketing and additional staffing costs.
The money goes through Wexford County and will be overseen by the Traverse City Area Chamber Foundation. The trout farm was chosen through a competitive process in which businesses must demonstrate private investment, diversification opportunities, and an overall positive return to the state.
"The commitment of these companies to grow and create jobs here demonstrates the significance of our greatly improved business climate and infrastructure," says Steve Arwood, MEDC executive VP and COO.
