A longtime local Traverse City beverage distributor is being acquired by a larger company.
It's a planned move by Wicksall Distributors, which will become part of
Great Lakes Wine and Spirits, as owner Pat Wicksall announced his intention to retire.
"I want to thank all Wicksall employees, past and present, for all of their hard work, passion and professionalism, and I wish them continued success. Great Lakes Wine & Spirits has an impressive track record of keeping employees and the community engagement intact as they have acquired business in new markets," says Wicksall in the announcement.
Wicksall Distributors has 60 employees and distributes beer and wine to about 600 retailers in Antrim, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska, Wexford and Missaukee counties. Among their distributed products are more than 200 brands, including five Michigan breweries and six Michigan wineries.
Great Lake Wine and Spirits is already present in the northwest Michigan area, and distributes more than 2,300 brands of beer, wine and liquor to almost 17,000 retailers from 475 suppliers across Michigan, from the Upper Peninsula to Monroe County. They have about 900 employees, several of which are already in northern Michigan.
