Onaway-based
Awakon Federal Credit Union is celebrating the opening of a new full-service branch in Gaylord.
Formerly the Onaway Community Federal Credit Union, Awakon was renamed in 2012 to better reflect all the communities it serves, which include branches in Indian River, Wolverine, Rogers City, Onaway and now Gaylord.
Groundbreaking was held on the new 4,300-square-foot building, which is at the corner of M-32 West (Main Street) and Murner Road. The credit union plans for the location to include natural materials and integrated technology, an express area, fireplace and beverage area, wireless service, a full-service drive through, drive-up ATM and even a community room with a separate entrance for evening community activities, to fulfill the credit union's mission of community engagement. It is planned to open in early 2014.
Awakon Federal Credit Union serves members in Presque Isle, Cheboygan, Montmorency, Otsego, Alpena, Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim counties.
