Well, northern Michigan is losing one
Art Van store and gaining another.
The furniture retailer is expanding with five new stores planned between July and September, and one of those will be in Gaylord. Before that, in May, it plans to close its Onaway store.
"As we continue to open new stores, it is also important we assess our existing stores. With stores in Traverse City, Petoskey, Alpena, plus Gaylord, we believe we can effectively service the Northern Michigan communities and have decided to close our Onaway store in May," says Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. "This is not a decision we have come to lightly, and every effort will be made to find new positions within the company for our Onaway associates."
Art Van also will open a new distribution center this summer to better serve its new stores outside Michigan.
The other planned expansions are in Michigan, Toledo, Ohio and Chicago.
