Alaskan Seafoods re-opens

Traverse City-based seafood supplier Alaskan Premium Seafoods has reopened with a new owner.

Now solely owned by Maura Boland, the seafood company, founded in 2009, reopened to meet customer demand. Alaskan Premium Seafoods offers sustainably caught, traceable Alaskan seafood to local restaurants and markets. Their small company sticks to the values of sustainability and traceability, says Boland, and buys only hook-and-line-caught fish from family-owned Alaskan fishing boats.

"Our products come directly from the boats and we know where the seafood is caught," she says. "The seafood is flash frozen on the ship and does not leave the U.S. waters."

In fact, the small supplier was just recognized in the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch's list of sustainable seafood companies.

Locally, their products are available at Oryana Natural Foods Market and Frenchie's restaurant in Traverse City. They also offer their wares at local farmer's markets, and can fill delivery orders as well.
