ACAT Global buys new site in preparation for expansion

It looks like there may be some room for expansion over at Advanced Clean Air Technologies Global in Charlevoix.

The company, which purchased a site just south of the city about a year ago and started manufacturing catalytic converter components, recently announced that it closed on a property just off M-66 North. The property, which formerly housed Hoskins Manufacturing, has a 70,000-square-foot building located on the 27-acre property.

While the company isn't expecting any immediate expansion, it did note that it would be increasing its workforce through summer to nearly 20 employees. Continued growth of the work force is expected over the next few years.

ACAT Global has been making several moves so far this year. Most recently, it invested in Grand Rapids-based Oliver Racing Parts, which manufactures high-performance connecting rods. ACAT Global eliminated all of the company's debts and is planning a second-phase investment to upgrade equipment and add key personnel, says ACAT Global CEO Joseph Moch.

"Oliver Racing Parts complements ACAT nicely," says Moch. "Both companies are dedicated to manufacturing well-engineered, high-quality performance products for original equipment and aftermarket use, and both are made in the U.S.A. It’s a great fit."

The second phase of ACAT's investment is expected to take place over the next sixth months to a year and is expected to convert Oliver's operation into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, as well as add between four and eight full-time employees.
