In May, the State of Michigan auctioned off hundreds of sites around Northwest Michigan for gas and oil leasing. To find out what that means for homeowners and property owners, the Michigan State University Extension Service is holding a no-cost educational forum on June 24 from 6-9 p.m. at the Hagerty Center in Northwestern Michigan College's Maritime Center.
The forum is designed to help landowners understand their rights regarding oil, gas and mineral leasing, as well as voice their concerns about the environmental impact that drilling and digging might have on adjacent land. Oil and gas experts, attorneys and MSU Extension Service staffers will be on hand to answer questions, such as what do property owners need to know before they sign a lease; and what about easements and right-of-way issues? All good stuff.
Before you go, you can check out the sites now being leased on a Google map
here.
You can also read detailed information from a workshop held in early June in Cheboygan and Emmett Counties
here. A sample of the oil and gas lease used for state-owned land and oil and gas
expert resources for landowners are included on the site.
