Saginaw Valley State University has a new provost and VP for academic affairs, Deborah Huntley.
She's replacing Donald Bachand in the role, since Bachand has moved into the role of president for SVSU.
Huntley has been at SVSU since 1998, when she joined the chemistry faculty. Since 2009, she's been the dean of the university's College of Science, Engineering and Technology, and also spent three years as the associate VP for academic affairs.
She recently worked to secure grants from Dow Chemical and Dow Corning, which will help SVSU improve STEM education in area schools. Among her other qualifications: Huntley evaluates other universities for accreditation as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, and is active researching and publishing in the field of chemistry. In 2006, she received the Earl L. Warrick Award for Excellence in Research from SVSU.
