Northwood University adds program in sustainability management

Often, business and the environment are thought of as opposing forces, but a new degree program at Northwood University combines the two.

The new sustainability management major will be available for the fall of 2013 and is designed for business students who are eco-conscious and want to combine sustainability ideas with the business world--and the demand for those graduates is growing.

"There is an increasing need for business managers and enterprise leaders who understand the complex and evolving relationship between business and the environment," says Dr. Kristin Stehouwer, executive VP, chief academic officer and chief operating officer at Northwood University. "Sustainability practices are good for the environment as well as the businesses that implement them. Our graduates will be equipped to grow the long-term health and profitability of the businesses they lead."

Courses include ecological principles, environmental science, environmental law and public policy, financial management, urban design and construction.
