If you really want to know about the quality of a product or service, ask the customers. That goes for health care, too, where patient surveys let providers know how they're doing. At
Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland, the answer is they're doing well, at least according to a recent patient award given to the OB department there.
The OB department received the 2011 Professional Research Consultant 5-Star Award for Patient Loyalty, which is given to health care facilities who score in the top 10 percent of "excellent" responses on quality of care surveys its patients fill out.
You know, the kind of survey where you have to choose whether the service was excellent, very good, good, fair or poor. The award was based on responses from 2010 patients who received inpatient OB/Gyn care at the Midland medical center.
"Achieving this award is a result of dedication and hard work. But, more so, it's because of the passion of our staff. You have to have a passion for what you do--and in them, it truly shows, day in and day out," says Tonia VanWieren, director of the OB Department. "Our team definitely wears many hats and they are excellent in what they do."
Patient responses were collected by
Professional Research Consultants, Inc., thus the name of the award. The Omaha-based company asks patients to rate areas like admissions and registration, discharge, facilities, food, nurse and physician communication, personal care, and overall quality of care.
