MidMichigan Health makes top U.S. health system list for third-straight year

MidMichigan Health is the provider for thousands of mid-Michigan residents, with health care services in 12 counties. So it's good to know that it's also one of the best-performing health systems in the U.S.

That's according to Thomson Reuters, which analyzes health care systems nationwide and rates them. MidMichigan Health was named in the top 20 percent of health care systems in the analyst's 2011 ratings; it's the third consecutive year for such a high rating.

The announcement included the 57 best-performing health care systems in the country, after analyzing 285 of them.

"This recognition by Thomson Reuters reflects MidMichigan's focus on quality of care and on providing our patients with a positive experience," says Richard Reynolds, president of MidMichigan Health. "Our clinical leaders continually search out best practices in clinical processes, quality and patient safety. They seek excellence through collaboration and continuing medical and nursing education."

MidMichigan Health met standards of quality and efficiency, and was ranked among the systems in the ratings that have better patient outcomes, fewer mortalities, and fewer complications. They also were rated as having higher quality care, fewer negative safety marks, and better patient satisfaction scores.

"It is great that this designation recognizes MidMichigan Health as a whole. It demonstrates that not just one or two of our organizations are functioning well, but that our entire organization is continually seeking and regularly achieving high quality patient care. The credit for being designated as a top performer by Thomson Reuters goes to our physicians, staff members and leadership," Reynolds says.

Thomson Reuters used data from 2009 and 2010 to determine the rating. MidMichigan Health was one of six health systems with hospitals in Michigan to make the top 20 percent. The system is headquartered in Midland and has medical centers in Alma, Clare, Gladwin and Midland, along with urgent care centers, home care, medical offices and nursing homes.
