Hemlock Semiconductor announces new company president

There’s a new president over at the quickly-growing Hemlock Semiconductor Group in Saginaw.

Andrew Tometich has been named as the group’s new president, replacing Richard Doornbos, who had led the company since 2006. During Doornbos’ time with Hemlock, the company saw more than $4.5 billion in investment. Doornbos will remain with the company at the CEO.

"Hemlock Semiconductor's rapid expansion in the past five years-- and our expectation of continued growth-- requires expanded leadership as we solidify our position as one of the global leaders in the solar and semiconductor industries," Doornbos says. "Andy's demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking and his broad, deep and diverse experience in business management will help to assure our continued success."

Tometich joined the Dow Corning Corp.--the parent company of Hemlock Semiconductor--in 1989, and most recently served as business vice president of strategic feedstocks for Dow Corning's Core Business Products, and has been on the Hemlock Semiconductor board of directors since 2010.

Hemlock has seen massive growth over the past six years, going from 600 employees in 2005 to a current work force of about 2,500. During that time frame, the company has invested more than $2.5 billion in the Saginaw-area plant.
