If you've been thinking about a new career in alternative energy or looking for a way to increase your technical qualifications,
Mid Michigan Community College is offering a low-cost, three-day accreditation workshop for those who want to be certified as geothermal energy installers.
The course is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 12 to 14 at the Technical Center on the college's Harrison campus, and is offered with the help of the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association.
It's designed for those seeking entry level jobs in geothermal technology, or for construction, design or development professionals who work with geothermal projects. Even homeowners who want to learn more about geothermal energy systems are welcome, and can opt out of the accreditation testing if preferred. The cost is $50, backed by a USDA Rural Development grant.
Accredited installers can be employed on geothermal projects across the country. HVAC contractors, drill operators and thermal conductivity testing companies are among those who need qualified geothermal technicians. The course also is a prerequisite for professionals seeking geothermal design certification. Registration is available online at MMCC's Technical Center
website.
