Seventy-five years is quite the milestone for a company, but that’s what
Dow Chemical Employees' Credit Union is celebrating this year.
The anniversary is being marked by the credit union in a weeklong commemoration that coincides with the date--July28,1937--DCECU first opened its doors. At the time, the credit union was open only to (bet you can guess) Dow Chemical employees. The membership fee was 25 cents and the credit union was located in Dow Chemical's personnel building in Midland.
In 1943, Dow Corning employees also became eligible for membership, and the DCECU family now covers dozens of companies' employees and their families.
Today the credit union has more than 56,000 members and more than $1.4 billion in assets, and has its headquarters at 600 E. Lyon Road in Midland.
The celebration will include loan sales and discounted rates for members through August 3, and the credit union encourages the public to examine its membership requirements, which have lately been expanded to include more community members.
