Covenant HealthCare's Travis named executive of the year

A local Saginaw health care executive has been honored by a group of people who hold together every business and organization; a group of people with whom often resides the real power and knowledge in an office: administrative assistants and secretaries.

The Saginaw Valley chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals announced its choice for its 2010 Executive of the Year. It's Carrie Travis, the director of nutrition services, bariatric care, and diabetic education for Covenant HealthCare.

Travis has been a small business owner and business leader since early in her career, and was born and raised in Saginaw. She graduated from Central Michigan University with degrees in business management and business administration, and a Master of Arts degree in education.

She's always been a motivated leader, beginning in high school, when she served as vice president of the Saginaw DECA chapter. Work experience with the McDonalds Corporation and UPS followed, including job titles like national sales manager, product specialist, and operations leader.

Travis made the jump to health care in 2002, working in pharmaceutical sales, and then joined Covenant, now holding her executive position. She also has been the United Way campaign chair for Covenant HealthCare's United Way campaign for the last three years, and also serves the community as a volunteer and staying active in her children's school and extracurricular activities.

Travis' attitude of encouraging all the Covenant employees to be the best they can be also extends to her success in United Way fundraising; since she's been heading the donation campaign, Covenant has more than doubled its donations, and has seen increased employee participation, with pledges totaling more than $95,000 to the community.
