CMU Research Corp. receives business incubator award

Current services will see a boost at the Central Michigan University Research Corp. thanks to an award from the Michigan Strategic Fund Board.

CMU Research Corp. will benefit from the award, which totaled $100,000 in administrative funding. The corporation will use the money to grow and enhance its current services for new business startups while developing a new economic model for the area. CMU Research Corp., a nonprofit business incubator in the Mid-Michigan area, was one of nine organizations that received funding from the awards.

"These awarded funds are critical for the growth and development for new, technology-based entrepreneurial companies in mid-Michigan during their start-up phase," says Erin Strang, CMU Research Corp. president and CEO.

The award will be used to attract and develop businesses in the area as well as to provide product and manufacturing development, business and investment strategy and hands on expertise.

Funding will be targeted toward businesses in the advanced automotive, manufacturing, alternative energy, homeland security and defense, and life sciences fields.
