Colleges are often full of pomp and circumstance, and the investiture ceremony for a president is no different.
Central Michigan University was able to showcase its dedication to tradition as it installed Dr. George Ross as the institution's 14th president during an Oct. 14 ceremony. The event is not only traditional, but it serves as a formal induction into the office as well. An archived video of the ceremony is
available here.
Ross has been serving the university as president since March 1, but was not formally presented the office until last week. During the ceremony he was given the university medallion, which features seven links representing the academic colleges that are under the Central Michigan University umbrella.
"The responsibility for the success of our students officially passes to me today," says Ross. "We must recognize the transformative power of education and build a culture of academic excellence and quality across our university."
There were more than 1,000 in attendance at the ceremony, which featured speakers U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and Michigan's Lt. Gov. John Cherry.
Central Michigan University boasts an enrollment of more than 28,000 students throughout all of its locations. It is Michigan's fourth-largest university and one of the top 100 largest in the United States, offering more than 200 academic programs from undergraduate through doctoral pursuits.
