Midland has a new voice in Lansing, with the appointment of Mike Telliga to the Liquor Control Advisory Rules Committee for the state.
Telliga is director of government affairs and special projects for the
Midland Area Chamber of Commerce, and was appointed by the Michigan
Office of Regulatory Reinvention. The committee has 20 other members, and will help the office review the state's liquor control system for simplicity, fairness, transparency and efficiency. The new rules are aimed at making the system more friendly to business growth and job creation.
"We are very excited about Mike Telliga's appointment to the Liquor Control Advisory Rules Committee," says Sid Allen, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. "Our organization has been very active in working to modify the state's alcoholic beverage permitting in order to make cities like ours more competitive in soliciting new businesses, like restaurants. This appointment will give us a voice in this important regulatory matter."
The committee's work will be conducted over 120 days, in which they will review the liquor control system and its rules, health and safety benefits, cost, efficiency, and other factors. They are expected to get rid of obsolete or redundant rules, and possibly eliminate some of the regulations which cause businesses the most difficulty. In the end, changes will have to be approved by Gov. Snyder.
