Ecken named Alma College alumni director

Alma College has a new alumni engagement director – who has a new job title, besides.

The person is Lou Ecken, not a brand-new face to Alma; she is a 1995 grad and was on the Alma College Alumni Board from 2004 to 2010.

Ecken was also the career planning coordinator in the academic and career planning office at Alma, since 2007. Before that, she was a school social worker for the Academic and Career Education Academy in Midland. She will replace Brent Neubecker, who is now associate director of annual giving for the school.

The name change for the position, from director of alumni relations, is meant to reflect the new approaches to alumni involvement, like student recruitment, internships and other connections. Ecken says she is looking forward to expanding those approaches even more.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to create new ways for alumni to be involved with the college, including expanding service and travel opportunities," says Ecken. "Alma College is such a great place. Students grow so much when they are here, and I want alumni to have opportunities to continue growing in ways that we can help."

Ecken has a bachelor's degree in exercise and health science from Alma, and master's degrees in social work and public health from the University of Michigan.
