Alma College chosen as one of 152 “Best in the Midwest” schools

The Princeton Review's annual list of the best schools in the country is out, and Alma College is on it.

The Princeton Review rates schools each year on several criteria including academic rigor, admissions selectivity, quality of campus life, and financial aid. Alma was listed as one of the 152 educational institutions on the review's "Best in the Midwest" list for 2011.

The ratings were determined from data provided by the institutions, and from 80-question student surveys. Similar lists were created for each of four regions of the country -- 623 schools in all. The Midwest region included schools in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Mike Silverthorn, director of communications at Alma College, says the listing is an important stamp of approval for the school.

"We are always delighted when independent organizations like the Princeton Review recognize the quality of Alma's academic programs and the commitment our faculty and staff have to personal attention, active learning, service and leadership," Silverthorn says.

The student survey results from the Princeton Review included descriptions of Alma as a place with "strong academic offerings," plenty of "out-of-class experiences," and "one-on-one access to professors that is amazing."
