A new e-learning program developed by Central Michigan University will help Dow Chemical streamline its business processes, reduce costs, and increase revenue.
The
university is developing online Six Sigma training for Dow Chemical employees as part of a five-year agreement with the Midland-based company.
Dow Chemical currently provides employees with the Six Sigma training at various sites around the world.
Six Sigma is a tool used by Dow Chemical and other companies to improve business processes, streamline operations, eliminate defects, correct inefficiencies, and reduce costs.
"The online training allows Dow the flexibility with delivering this training and preparing employees to take part in process improvement within the organization," says Sean Goffnet, assistant professor of marketing and logistics, who is working on developing the application. "It's going to certainly improve the way they are able to utilize their resources."
The university will conduct a pilot of the online course to about 50 people next month, he says. By next year, the course should be ready to roll out throughout the company.
The agreement between Dow Chemical and CMU also means that students will be exposed to Six Sigma, Goffnet says. University officials say Six Sigma training eventually will be included in the curriculum at the university.
In exchange for CMU's development and delivery of the program, Dow Chemical will provide funding to the university.
