An art exhibit to commemorate the fifth year of a Mount Pleasant cancer center this fall will give cancer survivors and others a chance to express through artwork how the disease has touched their lives.
The unique
art exhibit will be held on September 23 when the
Norval K. Morey Cancer Center celebrates its fifth anniversary. The exhibit,"Strength Through Art," will appear throughout the facility during the anniversary celebration. The artwork will honor the journeys and life-affirming changes that take place when people face a cancer diagnosis.
"What we're trying to do is to give people an outlet," says Kathy Hill, executive director of
Art Reach of Mid Michigan, the organization that will be judging the entries for the exhibit. "It gives them a chance to express their emotions."
Cancer survivors, along with anyone else who has been touched by cancer, is invited to submit original artwork and narratives expressing their journey with the disease to Art Reach of Mid Michigan for the juried show from now until Friday, August 20.
Following the anniversary celebration at the cancer center, the artwork will be on display at Art Reach of Mid Michigan in downtown Mount Pleasant. The artwork also will be published in a full-color booklet.
Central Michigan Community Hospital, the Morey Foundation, and Art Reach of Mid Michigan are collaborating on the exhibit.
