There's a new barbeque joint in town for Mt. Pleasant residents--but many will be glad to know it's actually a remake of local favorite Robin Hood's BBQ.
Sure Shot BBQ opened this spring at 1135 S. Mission Street, moving staff, recipes and owners over from Robin Hood's on West Broadway Street.
Owner Robin Heath and his children Jon and Adrienne are the linchpin of the new operation, which includes a whole new sit-down area so customers can dine in instead of only getting their food to go. Robin started out running the business himself, both the kitchen and business ends, but he's brought in son Jon to learn the secret Southern-style barbecue recipes and daughter Adrienne to handle the accounting and business work.
Since the family works as, well, a family, they are excited to add more room for other families to come and eat in the large seating area. The kitchen is bigger than at the former location too, and the menu also has had a revamp, although it still centers on slow-cooked pork and beef brisket.
Robin Heath says the reason for the new menu, which has fewer items on it, is to make sure that every single thing on that new menu is the best it can be, and is made homemade from scratch from the start. They took off menu items that didn't meet that standard or weren't customer favorites.
"Everything here is homemade--that's how we ensure the quality," says Heath. "We never try for good enough; it has to be the best."
The Mission Street restaurant is the culmination of Heath's long-term plan, which had been to open in a bigger location after a few years of working out any problems that might arise. The new renovations make the restaurant attractive to both new and old customers, and so far the plan certainly seems to be working.
