There are approximately 200 more people employed in the Mt. Pleasant area thanks to the soon-to-be-open
Soaring Eagle Waterpark and Hotel.
According to the CEO of Migizi Economic Development Company, which oversees all non-gaming operations for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, most of the workers hired were members of the tribal community.
"The goal of Migizi is to create jobs for the tribal members and to promote economic development for the entire tribe," says Jennifer Turner. She adds that doesn't mean it's been exclusively limited to tribal members. "We've hired a lot of (Central Michigan University) students for jobs such as lifeguarding."
Jobs that were filled include staffing for both the hotel and the water park, as well as management and administrative positions.
The Tribe employs more than 3,000 people in Isabella County, making them the largest employer in the county--approximately 10 percent of the county's work force.
