Mid-Michigan businesses are growing--that was the message at the annual Saginaw Future awards, held at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth.
Saginaw Future backed up that claim by honoring 35 economic development projects and businesses that showed growth in 2014, bringing a total of $233 million in investment to the area.
One hopeful sign for heavy industry in mid-Michigan was that 19 of those awards went to manufacturing-related projects, and according to Saginaw Future, the manufacturing sector created or retained 912 jobs in 2014.
Downtown and Old Town Saginaw also showed promise, with nine varied projects honored, from housing to medical businesses and even new entertainment jobs.
"It's exciting to see a resurging manufacturing sector, which resulted in significant projects from Buena Vista Charter Township to Thomas Township," says Saginaw Future President JoAnn Crary. "New investments in Downtown and Old Town Saginaw have young professionals and entrepreneurs returning to the urban center to live, learn, work and play."
Amigo Mobility International also was honored by the Saginaw Future Procurement Technical Assistance Center as its contractor of the year.
