Maki, Valent join Midland Area Chamber of Commerce staff

Two new additions are gracing desks at the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce lately: Jennelle Maki and Joe Valent.

Maki is a new program specialist for the chamber, while Valent is filling the role of director of government affairs and special projects.

Valent may be familiar to some in mid-Michigan from his most recent position on the staff of U.S. Representative Dave Camp. He's also been a clerk for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, and has experience in business management, public policy and community outreach. Valent is a Midland native with a bachelor's degree in political science from Miami University.

His duties at the chamber will include overseeing legislative and governmental affairs for the chamber and its members, and overseeing the Center City Authority, as well as other special projects.

Maki's background is in event coordination and communications, and she brings experience from working with chambers of commerce in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and in Traverse City. She also is a native of Midland, with a bachelor's degree in organizational communications from Western Michigan University.

Her duties with the chamber will include the small business committee, Midland's Young Professionals, and assisting with many other special programs.
