Main Street Oakland County is presenting a day-long workshop to help local communities cope with tough economic times. "Lead Your Downtown from Brown to Green" will be held Friday, August 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the
Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center.
Featuring local, state, and national experts, this workshop is an opportunity to explore new topics and focus on relevant downtown revitalization, preservation and sustainability issues, including:
- Brownfields: Out of the Red, Into the Black and Legislative Update
- The Green Side of Historic Preservation and Downtown
- Michigan's First Green, Sustainable, and LEED Certified Restaurant
- Tapping Your Foodshed with a Farmers Market
- Greening Downtown Infrastructure: Stormwater Solutions and Parking Lots – New Techniques
- Lighting: LED Case Studies of Cost Savings and Payback for Municipalities and Building Owners
- Not Just for Tree Huggers: Urban Forestry - Managing Downtown Canopy, Social and Psychological Street and Park Trees
Cost for the workshop is $75 per person, or $25 each for Main Street Community representatives and college students with current student ID. Registration includes conference materials, continental breakfast, lunch and snack.
Professional Continuing Education Credits are available. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) CM Credits: 5.5 APA-CM hours have been approved. American Institute of Architects (AIA) CES Credits (self-reporting available).
