Heads Up: Register Now For 2009 'Brooksie Way' Half Marathon on October 4th

Registration is now open for the second annual Brooksie Way Half Marathon that takes place Sunday, October 4th. Four thousand participants came out last year and more are expected in 2009. Olympian Bill Rodgers and other elite runners will be there too. The race uses state-of-the-art D-tag timing and provides half marathon finisher medals.

The course winds through Oakland University, Rochester Hills and Rochester, even venturing onto the Clinton River and Paint Creek Trails. There is also a 5k race and the Detroit Pistons Fun Run on the grounds of Oakland University. All races start at 8 a.m. You may walk or run any of the events. Company running teams can compete against one another in the Corporate Challenge. This year we are also inviting CEOs in the region to run against each other in the 5k race.

The Brooksie Way Training Program helps you prepare for the half marathon or 5k race. Get health screenings, group training sessions, free registration to running events, access to Oakland University's Recreation Center, and so much more. You must register by July 24th to take part in the training program.

Activities open to the general public include the Health and Wellness Expo at Oakland University's Shotwell-Gustafson Pavilion on the Friday and Saturday just prior to race day. On race day, visit the Family Activity Zone open all morning that features a rock climbing wall and bouncers. Have some more fun at the post-race party. Both events take place near Meadow Brook Hall on the grounds of Oakland University.

The Brooksie Way Half Marathon is named in honor of Brooks Stuart Patterson, a young father and son of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, who died after a tragic snowmobile accident in 2007. Proceeds support programs that promote healthy active lifestyles.

The Brooksie Way is presented by Oakland County and the Crim Fitness Foundation, and is sponsored by HealthPlus and Citizens Bank.
