Welcome to Metro Mode's Regional Activation Zone, a partnership with United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

To truly change the direction of Southeast Michigan, people need to feel part of the community and get engaged at the neighborhood level. Community is at the core of transforming the region.

The mission of the Zone is threefold: Inspire. Inform. Connect.

“United Way is a place where people can come together to have an equal voice in creating lasting change for this region,” said Michael J. Brennan, president and CEO, United Way. “The Regional Activation Zone is one way you can make a difference.”

We want to use this section as a way to get people involved, and get feedback from the community about what they want the region to look like.

Here's what to expect:

• Surveys: We will give people a real opportunity to share their feedback and input on regional transformation. We want your thoughts on everything from improving race relations to rebuilding the economy. United Way will use the information to carry out its mission, and we'll share the results with you.

• Volunteers: We will tell the stories of ordinary people doing exceptional things in the region. Who's giving back and how are they doing it? Also, learn about United Way’s 2-1-1 service and Volunteer Solutions, which connect potential volunteers to agencies that can use their skills. United Way’s 2-1-1 also connects people in need of assistance with health and human services throughout the region.

• Agencies: We will also introduce you to nonprofit organizations that are building communities across the region.
