If you see 100 people gathered outside of Farmington Brewing Company this summer, it might not be for the beer--though there’s a good chance that could be a reason, too.
Since opening downtown in November 2015, a local runners group has organically formed around downtown Farmington’s brewery. Every Tuesday at 7 p.m., a group meets at the brewery and then embarks on a 5K run. They then meet back for a round of craft beers, and at a ten percent discount, to boot.
It all started innocently enough, says Farmington Brewing Company co-owner Jason Hendricks. The brewery, which used to be open Wednesday through Sunday, had just tried opening its doors on Tuesdays. A local runners group approached the business with an idea for a run club.
"We’re very receptive to ideas. We won’t poopoo it right away," Hendricks says.
What started as approximately 25 runners has since ballooned to nearly 100 runners in the height of summer.
While Hendricks doesn’t run himself, he says he stays behind the bar to help with the inevitable rush.
The brewery also hosts a dad’s night on the first Thursday of every month.
"We were approached by Dwayne Hayes. He said, Let’s have a night where local dads can get together. Nothing formal, no sign-up," Hendricks says.
"That one I do partake in."
This weekend, the brewery will be hosting a two-day event celebrating the St. Patrick’s Day holiday on Saturday and Sunday. The brewery will be selling a traditional German-style Berliner Weisse. The beer is traditionally served with a green woodruff syrup, perfectly suited for the holiday.
The brewery also recently reopened up its mug club membership. There are currently 80 openings to join.
Farmington Brewing Company is located at 33336 Grand River Ave. in downtown Farmington.
