In Kalamazoo, the goal of the Black Arts & Cultural Center is to build human potential, self esteem and creativity among blacks of all ages.

Each year the organization sponsors the Black Arts Festival, the event out of which the center was formed. The seven-day event wraps up this weekend, July 30-Aug. 1, three days it calls Festival in the Park.

This is the 25th year for the festival and it will again be at the Arcadia Festival Place, 114 E. Water St., Kalamazoo.

The family friendly event is complete with music, food, storytelling, poetry and films.

D.J. Chuck performs Friday and Saturday. So will comedian Simply Shanelle. Ralph T’s Theory headlines Friday night.

Saturday’s headliners are ZAPP. Earlier in the evening take in the sounds of Funk 211 & Funkilinium

Grammy nominated Sheri Jones-Moffet will be Sunday’s headliner.
