Nothing says holiday spirit like the annual
Mt. Pleasant Christmas Celebration.
Come wander the streets of downtown Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 3-4 as the scent of pine boughs, roasted almonds, and kettle corn float through the air and the sound of carolers accompanies your stroll.
“We’re really excited to bring back this holiday tradition after canceling it last year because of COVID concerns,” says Carol Moody, recreation coordinator at the Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s the perfect opportunity to bring the whole family down and kick off the holiday season in style.”
This year’s event, formerly known as Dickens Christmas, has a couple of twists including a new Winter Market on Friday, Dec. 3. Featuring locally made specialty gifts and food vendors, Candy Cane Lane at Town Center will take place Friday this year and offer a variety of outdoor children’s games and activities.
Also on Friday, the tree lighting ceremony and community sing-along will take place at 6 p.m. featuring the Mountain Town Singers and the Mt. Pleasant High School Chamber Singers. Other Friday events include Christmas light tour hayrides, “Cram-A-Cruiser” toy collection, luminaria walk, and the Polar Express Warming Station at Veterans Memorial Library.
On Saturday, Dec. 4, highlights include the Jingle All-The-Way Kids Fun Run, 5K and 5 Mile Run starting at 7:50 a.m., and a pancake breakfast with Santa ($7/person; children under age 4 are $5) from 9 a.m. to noon. The festivities continue with the lighted Christmas parade winding through the streets of downtown starting at 6 p.m. To top off the weekend, holiday fireworks will light up the sky after the parade.
“I think this is another one of those events that gives you all the community feels and why you live in a great city like Mt. Pleasant,” Moody says. “Everyone comes together and that’s what really makes it an amazing celebration.”
Registration forms for the Jingle All-The-Way Kids Fun Run, 5 Mile Run and 5K Walk/Run, Winter Market Vendor Application, volunteer opportunities, and parade entry applications (due Dec. 1) can be found at https://bit.ly/3k4Jw9B.
