Employee wellness and community involvement among goals of Corporate Cup Challenge on Island Park

The inaugural Corporate Cup Challenge kicks off on Island Park next week as seven teams of local businesses compete in a variety of events designed to encourage wellness and community among the ranks of the Mt. Pleasant area workforce.

The Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce organized the Corporate Cup, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11 through Friday, Sept. 13, with contests occurring from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day on Island Park.

An awards ceremony and closing reception is scheduled from 7:45 to 9 p.m. for that Friday.

"This is all about fitness, team-building, and friendly competition among businesses," says Bret Hyble, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce.

"Area businesses will come together to compete, promoting employee wellness and community involvement."

He goes on to say that the event serves as an excellent networking opportunity among members of the Chamber of Commerce.

The focus on employee wellness and community involvement is a result of the Corporate Cup’s premier sponsors McLaren Central Michigan and MidMichigan Health. Radio station My 104.3 and E&S Graphics act as event sponsors.

Seven teams made up of 8 to 20 members each will participate in six events spread across three days. Those events include Wiffle Ball, paper airplane toss, volleyball, cornhole, kickball, and a relay race.

The first, second, and third place winners will be decided by tallying up the finishes of each event, culminating with an awards ceremony and closing reception.

Participating businesses and organizations include Blystone & Bailey, Central Michigan University Research Corridor, Isabella Bank, Mercantile Bank of Michigan, MidMichigan Health, Morey Courts, and the City of Mt. Pleasant.

Hyble estimates that the businesses will bring 250 to 300 people to Island Park over the course of the event, including both participants and spectators alike.
