From all the attention they’ve been getting, one would never believe that
The Purple Carrot food truck has only been operating since May. While many food service businesses might still be ironing out their menu, The Purple Carrot has recently been nominated, voted for, and ranked high on two national lists of the best food trucks in the country.
“It incredible that we’re in the running with all of these trucks who have been around for awhile,” says Nina Santucci, who co-owns the business with Anthony Maiale.
The Purple Carrot was nominated and voted as the number one on a list of the best vegetarian food trucks nationwide in
Mobile Cuisine Magazine.
The more publicized national appearance has been on the Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race poll. After being nominated to entire the race, The Purple Carrot was consistently in the top ten of more than 200 trucks throughout the month of voting. They ended their bid in seventh place, but had been as high as second at one time.
“Even begin in the top ten is exciting,” says Santucci. “Some of these trucks have 20,000 fans on their Facebook pages. The Lansing community has been awesome to us.”
With all the publicity, Santucci and Maiale hope to expand. They have moved into a more permanent prep kitchen space in the former Woody’s Oasis and plan to soon hire up to two more employees and offer more days of service.
