East Lansing partners with MORE service to match entrepreneurs to local resources

This week, the City of East Lansing announced a new partnership in a online tool that can help connect local entrepreneurs to free and low-cost businesses assistance resources. MORE, or Matching Opportunities and Resources for Entrepreneurs Program, is a U.S. Department of Labor funded non-profit supported by the New Economy Initiative.

The Detroit-based program is a web-based tool designed to match Michigan entrepreneurs with the business-building resources they need. East Lansing officials signed on to be one of the programs first ten organizations to offer the program at no cost to the city or users. As an early participant, East Lansing will assist the MORE Program with feedback and beta testing.

“The more users that utilize it the more robust the system becomes,” says City of East Lansing’s Jeff Smith. “We appreciate that there I no one door for an entrepreneurs and small business to find the resources they need. This opens thousands of doors to the most effective resources out there.”

Users, for example, may seek out legal assistance on MORE and be directed to low- to no-cost counseling assistance at MSU’s Legal Clinic.

“We hope that the more resources that put this link up in their site, the more people are able to find the resources available in the community,” says Smith. “We hope more organization get on board and start utilizing it.”

The MORE program is currently available on the City of East Lansing’s new economic development website.
