Editor’s Pick: The Google Fiber For Greater Lansing Project

If you haven’t heard about the push for Google to bring its fiber project to the Capital region, you’ve likely been avoiding social media, print media and the radio.

This week, Capital Gains is encouraging our readers to submit community applications for the Greater Lansing for Google Fiber project.

Google will test its super-fast broadband service in the winning city, which would give 50,000 to 500,000 Capital region residents access to broadband that’s about 100 times the speed of existing connections.

Thanks to Arialink, the region already has 300 miles of fiber optic cable supplying fast broadband access for businesses. The pilot would do the same for residents and bring millions of dollars in investment to the region.

The Capital region is competing against other regions all over the country for this pilot, so we need all the help we can get.
